Moving on from a break up: Relationships and the hurts they bring
“For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction” (Sir Isaac Newton) A break up from either a short or long-term relationship often leaves us feeling rejected and discarded. The tendency is to react by becoming more dependent, taking whatever friendships come our way (abusive or otherwise), or by becoming withdrawn and detached, and not allowing anyone to get close and hurt us again. Either reaction keeps the hurt alive. This workshop will explore ways of ‘letting it go’ and doing something different, allowing the relationship to help us to grow and become better than we are.
What every youth leader needs to know about mental health
This elective will help you to understand some of the common mental health issues you are likely to encounter when working with young people and will offer some practical advice on how to recognise when these issues are cause for concern, and when to refer a young person for further help. You’ll also be encouraged by learning what YOU as a leader, mentor and support person can do to make a helpful difference for a young person facing mental health issues.
Lyn and the Alpha Counselling team run "The Change Room" each year at Black Stump festival, and present a number of workshops - click here to see the full range of workshops offered in 2009.
People were also welcome to come along to "The Change Room" anytime during the Black Stump festival weekend, and complete a range of questionnaires, including personality, careers and resilience.
